Dear Humans,
About a month ago I sat down with actor and comedian Jeff Hiller for a conversation I knew I wanted to hold onto. At the time, Jeff told me he had been nominated for an Emmy. I had a feeling he was going to win, so I kept the episode in my back pocket until the moment was right. And lo, the prophecy came true. Jeff Hiller has officially won his first Emmy, taking home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Joel on Somebody Somewhere.
This is a remarkable moment for Jeff. After more than 25 years of grinding through smaller roles and waiting for the world to catch up, he is finally getting the recognition he deserves.
When we talked, Jeff shared stories from his new memoir Actress of a Certain Age, reflecting on the long road to this moment.
He painted a picture of life and described how Somebody Somewhere blends comedy with quiet emotional truth. We spoke about how playing a gay churchgoer on television echoes his own life, how certain projects never make it to air but remain etched in memory, and how resilience and humor kept him going through the toughest years of his career.
We also touched on the larger world, the weight of sadness in our times, and why holding onto hope still matters.
Hearing him now, Emmy in hand, proves that hope and persistence are not just abstract ideas but living truths. His victory is more than a statue on a shelf. It is proof that ordinary stories and ordinary people matter, that showing up again and again can eventually shift the course of a life.
I am so proud to share this conversation with you at this moment. Jeff’s story is a reminder that even when the world tells you no, the answer might still be yes as long as you keep going.
Love,
God
