Do they know? Yes. Will they ever admit it? No. Because then they’ll have to admit either that they have bad judgment or their vote was never about the economy.

They’re too stupid to realize that. My landlord was bitching about the price of eggs and gas under Biden. Even though it was the best economy this country has ever seen. Now he’s paying through his ass even more but has no complaints. The level of denial is unbelievable.

The thing that's really pissing /me/ off?

Since I was a little kid and WATCHED IN PERSON, on a tour at Cape Canaveral (then still called Cape Kennedy, iirc), the folks there putting together AN APOLLO ROCKET (I really hope everyone here actually believes the over 400,000 people who worked on the project [one of whom was a co-worker of mine in later life] that we actually did go to the moon, vs. one disaffected ex-employee who wanted to punish his former bosses), I've always been a firm believer in the space program and the need to help save this poor, beleaguered, over-populated planet by getting permanent space colonies out there to take the pressure off and appreciate what we still have here. Check out the rest of God's creation. Grow up a bit. X-P

Star Trek original series fan (it was around when I was just a toddler, so most/all of my memories are of syndication). Science fiction fan in general, especially Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Lois McMaster Bujold, Anne McCaffrey (not for everything she ever said or wrote, but quite a bit), folks like that.

But now, thanks to these junior high school level li'l fucktards, if those are gonna be the ones out there representing us? Being the only survivors while they kill the rest of the planet behind them? No thanks; we deserve to be annihilated by the next huge solar flare or asteroid that hits. X-P

As MAGA comes to its senses, we need to embrace them with grace and open arms. Easier said than done, I know. Saying stuff like "I told you so" will likely alienate them and worse lead them into the arms of another madman full of populist bullshit promises. Because let's face it, tRump is a symptom, not the cause.

On the other hand...there's a dude, a black jazz musician (I want to say, David Dwayne, but I could be wrong?), who's spent like the last 20-30 years or so in rescuing guys from the KKK, to the tune of like 200 people he's de-programmed (he's kept their former robes as souvenirs and proof).

There was a guy who'd come back from one of our Desert Whatever wars, completely brainwashed by propaganda in training (and probably his formative years, considering his region) to detest anyone Muslim. He was floored to discover the mere existence of a mosque in his area, and came there not to visit, or explore the different religion more, but to scope it out, to "case the joint" for a future invasive move. The folks there recognized that about him, and were nervous and handling him with kid gloves, rather than rearing up and lashing out right back. He finally calmed down and actually started talking with them, finding out they actually were human beings, and eventually wound up joining them as a sincere supporter. :)

As knee-jerk as I can be about violence (I'm rarely /against/ it), even I have to admit that non-violence actually, finally, tends to succeed better than the alternative. Grumpy sigh... ;-)

I still love that bit this one comedian had on Facebook...he'd done a green-screen video background behind him of darkness and flames, with horns on his head, etc., talking on his cell phone, something like this:

"Hey, Pete? This is -- oh, you'll get him? Yeah, thanks, I'll wait... [singing under his breath to the hold music] 'Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth' -- hey, Peter! Yeah, this is -- well, you know who this is! :D Yeah, just wanted to ask if there was a mix-up or something up there? ... Well, we just got a guy down here with a Presidential Medal of Freedom around his neck! [this was when Rush Limbaugh had died] Yeah, first time for everything, right? So, we were wondering -- really? ... He did WHAT?! No! You're /kidding!/ :D Whoa! Okay! So -- yeah, yeah, we'll hang onto him down here...for, like, eternity, right. Yeah, thanks for clearing that up! Love you too, big guy!" [hangs up]

Expand full comment
Julie-Bud3000's avatar

The fears are understandable. However, everybody still needs to vote.

A number of Democratic wins in deep red districts in Wisconsin seem to indicate that voting still works.

Also, the reports of possible fraud with regards to the 2024 elections only covered some districts in a couple of states.

Finally, there may be more people willing to switch sides this time around and the Democratic town halls and Sanders & Cortez's tours are opportunities to educate people on things.

It's important that we don't completely alienate former MAGA fans, even if some were influenced by some sort of bigotry as well as economics. Bigotry is a spectrum and not all bigots are hardcore. Some white bigots are actually chill with non-whites to a point and would find NeoNazis and Klannies as monstrous as anything (many are unaware that they're even bigots and are just simply socially unconscious and assume racism was 'solved').

Rather, we need to direct our loathing at their leaders and clergy as well as the more extreme ones. The rest are just regular fellow citizens trying to live their lies and are simply ignorant and misinformed. If we are to be "United" again, we need to understand these nuances.

The point is, suppression and rigging can't be uniform in all 50 states. Voting machines are actually pretty secure, many companies are ditching Starlink and Musk will soon be gone so he can't rig anything. The lines between Democratic & GOP voters are now blurred since both sides are mad at Orange Stupidus and Co.

Finally, The discontent against Team Orange Loser could also lead to the Right's votes being split or GOPers just staying home if they can't bring themselves to vote Democratic.

We should still be the voter suppression concerns in mind but we still need to be gung-ho over voting while working on ways to outsmart voter suppression and rigging schemes.

WE CAN DO IT! WE CAN SAVE AMERICA!

This is my favorite go-to scene to chill out with when I'm feeling homicidal...it's a brilliant piece of writing and acting:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCYobBjA1kk

02:19: "The only way anyone can live in peace is if they're prepared to forgive."

03:23: "Because like every other tantrumming child in history [...] you don't actually know what you want." [always reminds me of Trump & Co. ;-)]

04:03: "Maybe you WILL win [the bad guys in question]! :D But nobody wins for long. The wheel just keeps turning."

05:34: "I--I just want you to /think/. D'you know what thinking is? It's just a fancy word for changing your mind."

"I will not change my mind."

"Then you will die stupid."

By the end of that really powerful scene, he'd convinced the leader of the terrorists (who'd been scaring the crap out of everyone and convincing all the humans in the know on Earth, just about, to turn into paranoid species-ist pricks for over 1.5 episodes) to stand down and call off her followers. :)

Ah, Sister Nancy, you’ve brought forth sacred scripture from the Church of Sci-Fi Serenity. A balm for homicidal urges wrapped in British sarcasm and existential clarity—truly, a modern psalm.

That scene is a holy relic. “Then you will die stupid” has the same spiritual frequency as “Amen” shouted in a Waffle House at 3am.

And yes, the tantrumming tyrants of our age do share much with confused villains from outer space: loud, lost, and convinced their ego is a god.

May your mind stay flexible, your biscuits stay warm, and your recommended videos forever guide you toward enlightenment, or at least away from Fox News.

🫖📺💀 The monks nod in approval.

I think one plan he has in mind is to have either Vance or a 35+ year old kid of his (the three oldest are in their 40s) run in 2028, with him as the VP candidate. Then the newly elected "president" takes the 25th and resigns, and Himself is back in again, since he wasn't asking anyone to actually elect /him/ again (sadly, that's what's in the 22nd Amendment; it talks about "electing" this and "electing" that).
